KUSC Classical Music Radio and the Creative Kids Education Foundation along with their partners, have created several exciting online educational experiences for parents, children, and classroom study groups. Hansel and Gretel: Learning about Opera!

features Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel opera. Parents, children and student groups can control interactive elements in every scene and watch the play unfold. Players can DESIGN THEIR OWN OPERA and learn about opera music and theatre. Music listening guides and music games assist with exploration of the elements of orchestral and opera music. At the end of the story, additional information and resources can be found Backstage at the Opera.

Teachers can download a standards-based lesson plan featuring music education information and cross-curricular activities on fairy tales.

Scheherazade Interactive: Learning about Symphonic Music

Scheherazade Interactive is a music education experience based on the beautiful music of RIMSKY- KORSAKOV and  includes games that teach rudiments of music and listening skills based on the National and State standards of music education. This Scheherezade module also includes activities in art and geography.

A downloadable standards-based lesson plan is available for teachers, complete with printouts for students.

Brahms in 1890’s Vienna: Learning about Chamber Music

This educational module features the Brahms Clarinet Trio in A minor Opus 114, setting the music in a story about Brahms and his city, Vienna, Austria. Music listening guides and music games explore the elements of music, and players move characters through the historical sites of Vienna and are introduced to famous individuals of the period, such as artist Gustav Klimt. Resources and additional information can be found by clicking on “Café Central,” and at the end of the story, kids can enjoy three related game experiences in Prater Park.

A standards-based lesson plan is available to teachers complete with downloads about art and history/architecture.
